Acua Water Park Fuertebike, the largest mountain bike race in the Canary Islands

In Ohana Guest House we are proud to host organizers and competitors of the competitions that take place in our region and the FUERTEBIKE is one of the largest and most famous in our region.

The race is celebrated on September 7 and will take place between the incomparable natural landscapes of the municipality of La Oliva.

The Acua Water Park Fuertebike 2019 mountain bike race continues to grow in quality, organization and number of participants in its sixth edition.

If so far Fuertebike was the largest race in the Canary Islands that runs entirely in the same municipality, this year it will be the most important in the archipelago in all aspects, surpassing the thousand registered, beating its own record, and doubling the registrations of only two years.

Presenting on this occasion the nickname of the “Desert Challenge”, the participants have responded once again to the call of Fuertebike, motivated by the attractions of the race, such as the incomparable volcanic landscapes, cliffs and tracks by the sea of the municipality of La Oliva, or the two programmed modalities, Half Marathon (45 Km.) And Marathon (82 Km.).

In addition, the test is federated and valid for the official circuit, which will attract Fuerteventura to the best mountain bikers in the Canary Islands.

«This year we went from seven hundred to more than a thousand competitors. Expecting that the race that was still the most participative is not celebrated, and that it also took place in Fuerteventura, Fuertebike will be this 2019 the largest mountain bike race in the Canary Islands, with which we are very proud and excited ”, said the Councilor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño.

On behalf of the co-organizing club, Columbus Runner Fuer, Sergio Reyes said that "in this edition we will have very important surprises, which we will announce in the near future, and that go beyond the sports part."

Reyes highly valued the growth of enrollment, especially in terms of female participation, which has increased to 10%. We maintain a high number of participants from Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, as usual, and we have also grown up in competitors registered from Tenerife, and cyclists from the peninsula also start arriving. We are very satisfied".

The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, also pronounced on Fuertebike, «a race that identifies us as a municipality and as a destination, being a sporting event with transcendence abroad and that promotes the enjoyment of our territory from sustainability and respect for the territory ».

Security Coordination

This week the previous meeting was held to coordinate the security and emergency device of Fuertebike 2019, with the participation of the Councilor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Oliver González, the bodies dependent on this area such as the Firefighters, Local Police and Civil Protection, and representatives of the company that will provide ambulance service.

The increase in the number of registrations has led the organization to prepare in advance the safety and emergency device, with the aim of improving coordination in traffic cuts, and also increasing the effective means, vehicles and health services. In this regard, the race will feature four ambulances and a fast intervention vehicle this year.
